Angeline Thomas & Mick Byrne are now in Gijon, Spain to prepare for the World Roller Speed Skating Championships- you can read a good description of the skaters’ struggles of trying to get on the track and more in the entry Bienvenidos a Ghee-hon (Gijon)-
So far, pre-Championship rumours of expensive track hire (25 EU/hour for shared time), and an almost inaccessible track have proven true. The unusually-banked track (with steel boarding built like an armoured-car and unable to be seen through) is surrounded by what some months ago was a construction fence, and now doubles as enforcement of the paid ‘tollway’ the new pista has become.
