I just came in from a coaching planning meeting for the Toronto Speed Skating Club’s 2010-2011 season.
I’m pretty tired right now, so I’ll leave you with the following video below. I’ll post news, links, and updates on SSW at some point tomorrow.
Check this one out: 24h Roller Montreal 2010 Promo video (look for SSW’s Peter Doucet and also see if you can find Morgane getting a relay push from Valerie Maltais).
Most skaters don’t realize it, but what we do with our arms is just as important as what we do with our feet. Proper arm swing is a key to speed, especially when sprinting or accelerating. As they say, “Swing your arms and your legs will follow.”
Sharing a track with a 1000 skaters during 24 hours, being able to make new friends and reconnect with others is really another key of the event.
Make sure you register for the upcoming Ottawa Inline Skating Festival. With 3 distances- 10km, 21km, and 42km- and the possibility of skating all three races one after the other, the event will attract lots of skaters and looks like it will be another great one: Ottawa Inline Skating Festival

REPORTS & RESULTS
I tried to find another video to show you The Extra Special Thing. But I can’t…you had to be there. What I wanted to show you was how Joey Mantia makes skating look like ballet. Power and grace combined. It was really cool to watch. Even someone like me who knows nothing about skating could appreciate it. I’m really glad I was there.

The national team from Belgium also has a new national coach, Jorge Botero. I’m really really looking forward to Worlds to meet him and learn as much as possible from him! On Wouter Hebbrecht his blog you can read much more about him, but I’m already convinced that the Belgium team will do great with him as our coach.

SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING NEWS
Speed Skating Canada (SSC) is proud to announce the appointment of Nathalie Lambert to the International Skating Union Short Track Technical Committee. She is the first woman member of an ISU speed skating technical committee.
Morgane and I are back home from Trexlertown. The drive to and from Trexlertown was great; I didn’t hit any bears or run over any deer.
Yesterday’s 4th stop of this year’s Eastern Seaboard Series attracted a good crowd of skaters and faithful supporters. Race organizers were pleased with the turn-out, this with the help of the race being part of the NROC and with perfect weather conditions.
Prior to the start of the race, Herb Gayle and I were asked to sing the Canadian National Anthem. Herb sang the melody and I sang harmony. I think the people who had the privilege of hearing us live were extremely impressed with our fabulous rendition.
Each race featured some tough competition. In the Pro Junior/ Senior race, I was part of a few breaks during the race. None of these materialized into a substantial of threating lead, thanks to skaters like Justin Manon & Francisco Ramirez keeping me in check. I led out the sprint but died off in the last 150-meters, finishing 11th or 12th overall- 8th in the Pro Senior Men.
Keith Carroll won the Pro Men’s race while Samantha Goetz was tops in the Pro Women’s race. SpeedSkateWorld.com’s Morgane Echardour placed 4th in the Pro Senior Women’s race after stumbling coming out of the final bend.
Jeff Foster won the Pro Master/ Veteran Men’s race. SpeedSkateWorld.com’s Constant Montpellier placed 4th overall in the race.
In the 1km time-trial, Morgane Echardour was first amongst the female skaters. Luis Moreno set the fastest time in the men’s time trial with a time in the 1:26 range. I finished 2nd with a 1:27.8.
