EVENTS

Here is what I received from a source in Germany about the 2010 German roller & inline speed skating scene;

The GBC won’t be held in 2010 due to financial problems of the initiator.

The main sponsor the thai beer-brewing company Singha terminated financial support – they even sponsored Powerslide Phuzion – and by this the execution and support of some races is unsure. We’ll see which races will survive.

By terminating the GBC the GIC, the german version of the Suiss Inline Cup, has the oppurtunity of participating in the Nationals and some international competitions like the Criterium of Gross-Gerau.

Last years participants were some names like Christian Dias Granados, Felix Rijhnen, Nicolas Zamudio, Scott Arlidge, Nayib Tobon (both from this years Bont Europe team Zepto), Alexander Bastidas and to be fair Cecilia “chechi” Baena.

The link i added is from the german inline skate federation DRIV writen in german. So it sure is official. With this cancelling some races are unsure to be held in 2010 and after 11 years a great series has found an ending.

REPORTS & RESULTS

Wow is about as much as I can say. If you didn’t see it then you missed out, but fortunately, they should have the racing file online soon for like 4 dollars or something and trust me, it’s worth it. I’ll probably get it myself even though I saw it live. I don’t think I have ever seen racing like that in my life, it was incredible and awesome. Sure there may have been one race like that before at a meet but in 3 hours we had 5 incredible races.

“When you go to inline World championship, or an ice World cup, it’s just about skating. For sure you have pressure to perform, both from your country and yourself. But when you compete in the Olympics it’s a totally different ball game. You have the hearts of your nation supporting you. Its incredibly inspiring, but also new.”

TIPS & ADVICE

Rosero is a training animal. When he was in Switzerland with the World Inline Cup, he would routinely go on 6-hour training rides.

Dobbin is another one who puts in the hard yards. Both he and Rosero possess very efficient skating technique with no wasted energy.

MISC

Last weekend was a celebration of sorts to many Toronto area skaters. The temperature hit double digits (celcius, of course), the sun was shining, and the trails were clear of snow! Naturally, we swapped out our indoor wheels and hit the trails en masse.
